This is What Democracy Looks Like

Elizabeth Alexander, based on the popular social justice chant

ONE: We see that there’s a wrong to be righted.
TWO: We know that we are stronger when united.
THREE: We exercise our right to assemble.
FOUR: That’s when the proud and mighty start to tremble.
Just in case you’re wonderin’,
Just in case you’re wonderin’,
Just in case you’re wonderin’,
Hey, hey, look this way!

ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR!

Composer's Note:

When JusticeChoir.org co-founder Abbie Betinis issued a call for new teachable songs for social justice choirs, she offered up this compositional challenge: Incorporate your favorite slogan or chant right into the music. I couldn't resist! I especially like it that even the youngest children can join in on the counting.
